But the matte surface on the back of this one doesn’t seem to make the phone easier to hold, it makes it harder. I feel like the phone actually slides out of my hand considerably easier on the 3 XL case.

I’ve done a side by side comparison with my 2 XL and Spigen’s thin fit case without that matte surface. I wish they would just make a version of this case like the previous models.

I’ve been handing my phones around to people and asking them to tell me what’s different and every single person points out how slippery the new case is compared to the thin fit on the 2XL.

First off let me say this is a great case if you don’t like to add bulk to your phone but still want a little protection. I had this same line of case for my Pixel 2 XL and it was what I used most often.

In my opinion this year’s offering for the Pixel 3 XL is excellent. I suppose something had to give?

If you’re looking for a phone with a lot of drop protection, this is not for you. I have purchased multiple thin fit cases for my Pixel 3 XL and this is the only worthy one I’ve yet to find for a few reasons.

It allows for much easier swiping especially at the top. I purchased another one of these “thin grip” cases and it was like ice in the hand.

It adds practically no weight to the phone. If the whole case was made of this grip material it would be an easy 5 stars. That said, I have multiple cases now and this is the one that’s stayed on my phone for an extended period of time.

This case may be thin, but it’s terrible quality. I used this case for weeks and have never handled it roughly or dropped it once. The other day I found a piece of plastic while vacuuming my house and didn’t know where it came from, today I realized it had just chipped off for no reason while I was playing games in basketball shorts near my couch.

The plastic is terrible quality and brittle, it won’t protect your phone at all. I’ve been buying Spigen cases for years.

I’ve had 3 different thin fit spigen cases for my last iphones and loved them. They had this really grippy material which felt like hard rubber.

I recently got a pixel 3 XL so wanted to order the exact same case. Unfortunately, despite this case being the same case as I had before, it has a completely different material which is not as grippy.

Large phones, especially the pixel, need grip otherwise they drop easily, and i’m disappointed that spigen changed their design.

The rest of the case is good though. Great fit, slim, and has a nice look. However, not adding grip is basically a no-go.

The back has a nice texture to it for grip. Feels good in hand. There is not “bounce” or “give” with this case for shock protection. My biggest qualm with it is that it does not offer protection on the top and bottom edges.

I will probably be buying a different case for that reason. If youre just looking for something with some corner and side protection while keeping the phone thin, this fits the bill.

I have been using the Thin Fit for Pixel 2 XL since it launched, and it’s been the perfect balance between size, protection, and feel from day one.

The size and shape is the same, but the new material leaves something do be desired. It’s just too slippery, and the extra “grip” texture doesn’t do a thing to help.

I used to be able to loosely hold the Pixel 2 between the end of my middle finger and the meat of my thumb without any worry of it falling or moving, or set it on the passenger seat of my car, but the new material is so much smoother that it just slides around.

I thought maybe I was imagining it, but I was able to fit the Pixel 3 in the 2 case and it really does feel quite different.

Perhaps I will continue using it that way, even if it doesn’t fit exactly right? I’m sure they were trying to match the styling of the Pixel 3 XL but it came out feeling like cheap hard plastic leaving it more slippery than the phone itself.
