The smartphone is the successor to Redmi 5, which was launched last year in the country. The Chinese smartphone maker seems to be adopting a six month refresh cycle as opposed to annual refresh with its Redmi series.

Since it is a mid-cycle refresh, the Redmi 6 does not seem to be bringing major changes.

The smartphone builds on the design language of previous Redmi smartphones but gets dual rear camera setup, which puts it in-line with Redmi S2 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The smartphone also retains the budget pricing, which is the major USP of this model as well. While the Redmi 5 was released in three different storage options, the Redmi 6 has been announced in two storage models.

In India, the Redmi 5 is available at a starting price of Rs 7, The Redmi 6 features a smaller 5. Since the display is smaller, the Redmi 6 now has a pixel density of ppi as opposed to ppi of Redmi 5.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 brings dual rear camera setup to the entry-level Redmi smartphone. This is the biggest change coming to the Redmi 6 this year.

The smartphone is equipped with dual cameras combining a megapixel and 5-megapixel image sensors.

Technically, the Redmi 6 should produce better images than its predecessor especially in areas like pictures with shallow depth of field and portraits.

It gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and is backed by a 3,mAh battery. In comparison, the Redmi 5 offered a larger 3,mAh battery pack but the endurance could be the same with both the models.
