My wifes SII is having problems. When she makes a phone call, the screen goes black and stays that way. She is able to finish the call fine and when the person she calls hangs up the call ends.

The only thing she can do is hold down the startup button on the right side of the phone which reboots the phone as if it had been turned off.

Every phone call, incomgin or outgoing, she has to reboot the phone to regain access to the screen icons, otherwise the screen just stays black and unreponsive.

We finally did a factory reset of the phone hoping it was just a software conflict. No such luck. The same phenomenon happens after each phone call even after the factory reset.

I have the Galaxy S and bought it outright, IE not simlocked or anything.

I bought it from a Vodafone store in NZ. There I got 3G. Moved to Aussie, changed to Vodafone au and got 3G there too. Changed to Telstra a month or so later but no 3G.

I cannot edit these files as not root. Do you know any way I can remove the old vodafone xml files which must be overriding the APN settings. It is very frustrating as I currently only get 2G data not 3G.

You should be able to restore your backuped data trough KIES to your phone. If I do a Hard Reset, will the phone remain on the latest firmware update I did?

Or will it go back to the factory software version Android 2. Also, if a do a backup of all the data and apps stored on my phone, can I restore them after the Hard Reset?
